SCHOOL SUCCESS TIPS FOR KIDS

Eat a healthy breakfast (and a healthy lunch too)!

We have heard this all before... But, it is a great reminder. Make sure your kids (and you!) are eating a healthy breakfast! What does that mean? 🤨When you eat a healthy breakfast you are giving yourself the energy that you need to conquer the day. Make it fun! 😁Make it a goal to eat at least three colors every morning!

ASK: What can we do to set ourselves up for success?

Keep your eyes on your teacher!

I know, I know we all have heard this one before, but it is very important. Here’s why: Maintaining focus ensures that we LEARN! When we focus on what our teacher says, we make the most out of our school experience.

ASK: What time of day do you have the hardest time focusing? What are some action steps you can do to set yourself up for success in the future? (Maybe drinking some cold water or getting up to walk to the restroom to recharge!)

Do your homework as soon as you can and ask for help when you don’t understand!

It's important to make sure you understand the concepts your teacher is talking about. Because future lessons build upon past ones, talking to your teacher when you don't understand will help make sure you don't fall behind.

ASK: Are there any areas you feel like you don't understand? What time of day is best to approach your teacher to ask for help?

Tell you parents what your day was like and when you do well at school!

Make sure you tell your parents about what you enjoyed at school! It's so important to focus on our positive experiences with learning. 👍 It helps keep learning FUN! 😁

ASK: What was the funnest thing you did at school today? What did you learn? What did you teach your teacher?

Read every day!

Did you know that your brain is a muscle too? It's important that we exercise ALL our muscle muscles… Try finding a book to read just for fun. Make it something enjoyable!

ASK: Where would you like to add 10 minutes of reading every day to your schedule? How are we as a family going to prioritize reading?

Find some physical activity that you enjoy and go out and do it!

Just like our brains, our bodies need exercise too! 🏃‍♂️ Make sure that you are involved in some kind of physical activity. Commit to getting physical exercise at least once per day.

ASK: On the days that we don't do martial arts... What kind of physical activity can we participate in? Let's do it together!

Go to bed at your bedtime and go to sleep right away.

Rest is just as important as exercise! It's important that we honor our bedtime. We want to make sure we are set up for success by being well-rested.

PREPARE: Let's make a goal to be in bed 15 minutes before bedtime every night this week!
