Martial-Arts-Itis
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Sudden onset of unconfirmed illness such as headaches, knee pain, or stomach aches.
These illnesses DO NOT include signs of fever or vomiting.
Sure sign of Martial Arts-Itis: Sudden disappearance of symptoms the moment that time to attend class has passed, or permission to miss class has been granted.
Getting to the Root of it
There is a common “illness” that occurs in the training life-span of all martial artists. We are being a little silly here, but truly, this applies to all extra-curricular activities, school, pretty much EVERYTHING.
We KNOW that even the most dedicated students struggle sometimes. It doesn't mean they "don't like it anymore". It simply means they need support from someone who can see beyond what's going on right this moment.
There are days that you can think, "I just can't, today. I'll go tomorrow." But the thing is, tomorrow they (or you) will have a new reason for not attending.
Make their training a non-negotiable. Their dedication to training reaps major benefits in other activities. They become better leaders, better students, and excel in athletics, school, and at home.
