Connection over “Connected”

Hey there, Team Chip Community! You may have noticed that we have a little rule off of the mats - no devices allowed. That's right, we want you to disconnect from the digital world and focus on connecting with what’s happening ON the mat and each other. Why? Well, let’s get into it!

First we have to acknowledge… technology is amazing. It allows us to stay connected with friends and family, stream our favorite programs, and keep up with the latest news. But sometimes, we can get a little TOO connected. We spend so much time staring at screens that we forget to look up and take in the world around us.

So THAT’S why we are into a little concept we call CONNECTION over “CONNECTED”

That's where the areas off of the mat come in. When we're watching classes, we're leaving the digital world behind and entering a space of excitement and attentiveness. We're cheering on our kids or siblings, sharing in the joy of successes and the learning moments of failures. We foster connections with our martial arts crew and create community around our love of the sport.

By keeping the areas off of the training floor device-free, we're creating a space where everyone can connect on a deeper level. THAT’S the CONNECTION. We're seeking to foster a sense friendship and support, where we can be present with each other and share ourselves. We remind ourselves that connection is about more than just “being connected” - it's about being present and engaged with the world around us.

So the next time you're at Team Chip, put down your phone and embrace the connections of being device-free. Enjoy seeing your kids connect with other siblings and make new friends.

And who knows - YOU might just make some new friends and create some amazing memories along the way!
