Finding Inspiration: Triumph and Courage

I have written before about being teachable and willing to learn from anyone, no matter the style or skill level. Finding inspiration is very similar. We should be easily in awe of our training partners and our students, willing to overcome the small fears of new challenges, and celebrate successes.

Whatever area you are trying to learn or improve, study those who you believe do it at the level you aspire to. Be brave enough to realize you need help and ask for it, then put in the work to improve. It takes a lot of courage to decide you want to improve or learn something new; most people continue to dream. Once you’ve overcome the fear of the newness, celebrate that and move forward. Hold on to the exhilaration of stepping into the unknown, as this will help to inspire you to continue each day as you work to improve.

We should celebrate when someone tells us we’ve done well and remember that feeling because it is the new benchmark for how to do that thing. I would much rather remember a positive feeling than one where I didn’t meet the mark. The positive attitude of celebrating success and working to change and improve shortcomings will become contagious. Where you were once looking for inspiration, you could become the inspiration for someone else seeking improvement!

Black belts lead by example, overcome small fears, and celebrate improvement.
