Remembering Respect
From the time my children could walk/speak my wife and I have stood back and told them, “hey! why don’t you go and hold the door open for that person.” Even when it’s awkward or takes more time, we allowed them to work, and sometimes even struggle, to get the door open.
As my wife and I work hard to raise our children into respectful adults, I never cease to be shocked at the lack of reciprocation they receive.
no one owes my children a thing, but a simple “thank you” would go a long way in reinforcing correct, respectful behavior.
How little we tend to realize how much our actions contribute to molding others around us, especially young ones. Simple kindness can go so far.
